Our Design Team’s Journey Through Far North Queensland

This season our Design Team travelled to Far North Queensland, where they explored the natural landscapes. Head Designer Carmen Lingenau takes us through the journey.

On our visit to Far North Queensland, we explored the Daintree rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge, Cairns and Palm cove. We experienced so many contrasts, particularly levels of colour and sense of light. Each layer of the rainforest had its own sound with different levels of light and colour saturation.

Our textile designers painted the scenery whilst on location, directly onto soft cotton. This was then used as artwork for one of our beds where you can see the brushstrokes and details of the artwork.

Mossman Gorge was a beautiful spot. Unexpected inspiration comes through found objects, whilst hiking through the Daintree we collected nuts and berries and then on to beachcombing and collected shells along the way.

Our design team and textile designers literally paint and draw the landscapes and beauty in front of them.

We have several talented photographers on the team that capture the beautiful scenery and authentic stories from these experiences, to bring back to the studio – we then use this inspiration across the entire range.

In Candlenut Bay, we celebrate the lush, green & eclectic layers of the rainforest which can be seen in our colour palette and prints. Tidal celebrates the blues, in this range the blues are slightly muted and reflective, you will find a mix of prints and weaves in this space.
