Expertly woven: what’s in a sateen weave?

If you’ve never felt a sateen sheet—clean and crisp and soft all at once—we highly recommend you get to the nearest Sheridan store and run your fingers over one now.

It’s a silky-looking fabric, with the firmness of cotton.

But what exactly is it?

Cotton sateen weaves are created by the vertically facing warp threads passing over four horizontally facing weft threads, before being interlaced again. This improves softness, hand feel and fabric strength by 25%. Such skill and expertise is required to achieve a soft look and feel, whilst maintaining incredible durability.

It also makes for a lustrous surface, the kind you’ll find in your favourite hotel, that’s as formal or laid-back as you choose.
