Why we love cotton bed linen

The bed is an important place; even if most of the time we’re there our eyes are firmly shut.

Our beds are where we rest; places we recharge.

We go over the day’s events in our head, line them up and rearrange them. Great plans for tomorrow are made in bed. Inventions are hatched. Imaginations are ignited.

Having soft, strong sheets is an essential part of ensuring our bedtime is productive: that we get the sleep we need, that we reward our tired bodies, that we feel comfortable and cared for and are free to focus on our thoughts.

A big part of Sheridan’s bed linen offering is crafted using premium cotton. It’s one of the oldest, most trusted fibers in the world, celebrated for its durability and naturally breathable qualities.

Cotton is available in a range of staple (fibre) lengths: short, medium, and long. The longer the staple length, the better quality cotton you can expect.

We only use premium long staple cotton fibres in all of our sheeting ranges, regardless of thread count, so you can expect the Sheridan quality difference every time.

The explorer Marco Polo—thrilled by Indian cottons—described the woven fibres as “so fine, you can hardly feel them in your hand”.

Why are we so besotted with cotton?

Well, for one, we use the most premium types in the world: Egyptian and Supima.

We love that it’s a great-value investment, guaranteed to last wash after wash. It’s absorbent, making it perfect to sleep in and rejuvenate. And best of all, cotton is natural, making it breathable year-round and ultra-soft against the skin, and is also a more environmentally responsible material to produce.

Cotton – a noble history.

Cotton has long been a precious fabric, prized for its lightness and breathability. The explorer Marco Polo—thrilled by Indian cottons—described the woven fibres as “so fine, you can hardly feel them in your hand”. Centuries later, at Sheridan, we still marvel at cotton’s magic, using only long staple cotton to create the best possible sheets for a beautiful night’s sleep.
